Night: Weekend Shoot

Night is one step closer to becoming a reality. This past weekend, the majority of the film was shot. The weekend was filled with stress and mishaps, but with the help of some good friends, the weekend went rather smoothly.

The journey began Friday afternoon when we packed the car with two bolex's, a tripod, wheelchair, light kit, 4 film majors, and various unmentionables. After stretching a 1 hour and 20 minute car ride into 2 hours and 30 minutes, we finally ended up in Danbury, CT.

We began shooting around 10:30 and had the first scene shot in about an hour. We then packed up the car again and headed to the second location: the sidewalk in front of the emergency room. We unloaded the bolex and the wheelchair and got ready to set up our shot when things began to get interesting. The camera that had more than half a roll left in it would not wind. We ended up placing the camera in the car and loading the second one.
Once we finally were ready to shoot the scene, the security guard came out and told us we had to leave. A few college kids with a film camera and a wheelchair were scaring the employees as they walked out at one in the morning...

At this moment I felt awful. I had no idea how we were going to shoot the scene I needed. We ended up walking down to the corner of the street and just began shooting. We shot nearly one half of the film on one street corner. After a long, cold, and stressful night, we wrapped at 3 am.

The second day of shooting went so much smoother. Everything went as planned and we were able to get everything how I envisioned it. We were actually able to wrap the second night much earlier than we thought we would be able to. Overall, the first two days of shooting went rather well minus a few road blocks. The biggest thing I could take from the weekend is that you can never be too prepared. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING will go wrong. Always have a back plan. I am excited to pick up my film in the next few days and will hopefully throw up a trailer of sorts. Stay Tuned and enjoy the production stills.
